2 Deer Landscape, is a representation of a representation of nature. Starting with a paint-by-number painting found online, I reduced the multicoloured image to five colours through various digital image-building software. Each layer was created using a laser cutting machine then interfaced together by hand. Physical interaction with the work continued post digital production with the embellishment of hundreds of hand embroidered french knots. The result is a fictitious representation of nature composed of garish synthetic fibers in an unnatural colour palette. In doing so I am focusing directly on the intersection of craft, technology and popular culture by emphasizing hand verses machine made, artificial verses natural and reality verses representation.
